Amount: $4000 annually for five aboriginal students.

RBC Financial Group's Aboriginal Student Awards Program was launched in 1992 to assist Aboriginal students to complete post secondary education, and provide an opportunity for RBC to strengthen it's relationship with the Aboriginal community. In addition, recipients who indicate an interest in pursuing a banking career are considered for summer and postgraduate employment at RBC.
Each year, five Aboriginal students will receive $4000 annually for their education expenses, to a maximum of four years at a University, or two years at a college, in disciplines related (but not restricted) to financial services industry. To be eligible, applications must be received at RBC Financial Group by January 31st of each year. Successful applications will be notified by March 31st.

Scholarship Name: The Mathieu Da Costa Challenge
Due Date: Friday, February 23, 2007
For Who?: If you're between the ages of 9 and 18, you can participate in the Challenge. You'll get to use your creative talents and discover how people from different ethnocultural backgrounds have helped make Canada what it is today. You just submit an original piece of writing or artwork celebrating the contributions made by Canadians of Aboriginal, African or other ethnocultural backgrounds to the building of Canada.
Amount: Each winner, accompanied by a parent/guardian, will receive:
a three-day, all-expenses paid trip to Nova Scotia in April 2007, including transportation, meals and hotel stay;
three days of fun-filled activities;
VIP tickets to the Mathieu Da Costa Awards Ceremony in Halifax, Nova Scotia;
a Certificate of Achievement; and
other awesome prizes.
Details: Canada is one of the world's most culturally diverse countries, comprising citizens from more than 200 ethnic backgrounds. In fact, the quality of life we enjoy today as Canadians can, in many instances, be traced to the significant contributions made by Canadians of Aboriginal, African and other ethnocultural backgrounds throughout our history. The Mathieu Da Costa Challenge is an annual writing and artwork contest launched in 1996 by the Department of Canadian Heritage. The Challenge encourages youth to discover how diversity has shaped Canada's history and the important role that multiculturalism plays in Canadian society. Mathieu Da Costa was a navigator and interpreter of African descent who likely travelled extensively throughout the Atlantic world in the late 1500s and early 1600s.

Scholarship Name: First Nations and Indigenous Black Students Scholarship- Dalhousie
Due Date: Wednesday, March 15, 2006
For Who?: Available to First Nations and Indigenous Black students, who are residents of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick or Prince Edward Island, and are entering Dalhousie for the first time. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of a student's financial need and academic standing.
Amount: Ten renewable entrance scholarships valued at $3,000 each are available. Valued at $12,000 over four years.
Details: Scholarships are available to students who are applying directly from high school as well as those who have attended another post-secondary institution. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of a student's financial need and academic standing. Please submit a completed application to the Assistant Registrar, Awards by March 15.

Scholarship Name: Nova Scotia Power Inc. Employment Equity Scholarship
Due Date: March 31st, 2007
For Who?: For visible minorities, persons with disabilities or aboriginal persons. Academic achievement, community involvement, involvement in extra-curricular activities, and personal attributes
Amount: Four (4) $1,500 entrance scholarships. Three or four years, dependent on the duration of the undergraduate program
Details: Applicants must be graduating from a Nova Scotia high school and entering their first year at a post-secondary institution in the fall of the same year as graduation from high school.
Scholarships will not be awarded for pursuit of Graduate Studies or made in combination with any other Nova Scotia Power scholarships.
Recipients must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant and permanent resident of Nova Scotia for at least three years, two of which are immediately prior to high school graduation.
Scholarships and bursaries are non-transferable.
(*) Visible Minorities in Canada are defined under the Employment Equity Act as: "persons other than Aboriginal peoples, who are non-Caucasian in race or non-white in colour. This consists of Chinese, Asians (South, West and Southeast), Blacks, Arabs, Filipinos, Latin Americans, Japanese, Koreans, and Pacific Islanders."

Scholarship Name: Pengrowth-Nova Scotia Energy Scholarship
Due Date: April 27, 2007
For Who?: A Nova Scotia Student entering undergraduate studies in business, sciences or engineering at a provincial university designated for a Nova Scotia student claiming First Nation or visible minority status.
Amount: 1 scholarship of $2,500 (renewable for up to four years).
Details: The Scholarship represents an important partnerships between the Province of Nova Scotia and Pengrowth Corporation. The candidate should show leadership potential and have a record of community involvement in additional to strong but not necessarily top academic standing.

Scholarship Name: National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation-Aboriginal Health Careers Scholarships
Due Date: May 1st, 2007 (must be postmarked by then)
For Who?: A Canadian resident Aboriginal individual who is either First Nation status or non-status, Métis or Inuit;
Enrolled in a program of full-time post-secondary study – that is not less than two academic years – at an accredited university, college or CEGEP and pursuing a certificate, diploma or degree; there is an exception made for one-year upgrading programs such as nurse practitioner program after a Bachelor of Science in nursing;
Studying a branch of the health sciences such as: nursing, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, lab technology, physiotherapy, dietetics, health administration, public health policy.

1) one current NAAF Health Careers application form and statement of financial need (budget) fully completed and signed. **Please note that those applying for a scholarship only need not complete the statement of financial need**
2) proof of Aboriginal ancestry – photocopy of Band/Treaty card; Métis membership card; Inuit Beneficiary card. Students who are non-status First Nation may send a photocopy of the band card issued to parent or grandparent.
3) current transcript of grades followed by an Official Grade Transcript when it is released by the university/college;
4) two assessment reports completed and placed in sealed envelopes; if you are returning to school after a lengthy interval and are therefore unable to submit faculty assessment reports you may have an employer complete this assessment for you.
5) a letter of personal introduction to the jury that includes your ideas on Aboriginal health care, its challenges and the role that you will play in meeting those challenges; the letter should also describe your living connection to your own Aboriginal community and any other special circumstance that might warrant special consideration by the jury;
6) a resume or CV;
7) a recent photograph (head and shoulders) that can be used on NAAF’s website or in its scholarship brochure or other advertising;
8) confirmation of admission into program, OR, proof of continuing enrollment in program.
9)a financial accounting (in the form of a report, along with receipts or copies of receipts) of how you used any award you may have received the previous year

For Who?: Must be a member of Acadia First Nation, graduating from Grade 12 and continuing on to studies in the fall.

For Who?: All students who are registered with a NS Mi'kmaq band and an enrolled student are eligible for an academic achievement award or scholarship ranging from $500 - $1500.

M&NP and the Assembly of NS Mi'kmaq Chiefs are committed to the development of future generations of Mi'kmaq students through academic and personal development. Scholarship Name: FAAY Scholarship for Aboriginal Youth
Due Date: Friday, October 13th, 2006
For Who?: Aboriginal students (status, non-status, Metis and Inuit) who are Canadian citizens, enrolled full time in a Canadian school located in Canada.
Amount: 50 bursaries of $750 for high school students (grades 9-12) and 85 scholarships or $2500 to $4000 for full time students enrolled in university, college or technical institute.
Details: Operated by CCAB, the Foundation for the Advancement of Aboriginal Youth is the scholarship and bursary program dedicated to developing the next generation of Aboriginal leaders. By encouraging Aboriginal youth to stay in school, FAAY bridges the gap between the reality which kids confront in their communities and the opportunities available to those with higher education.
How to apply: To apply for a FAAY award, you should:
--Fill out the FAAY application form;
--Write an essay letting us know why you should receive an award;
--Obtain a certified original copy of your latest transcript from your school;
--Have a teacher write a letter of reference about you;
