The following Scholarships are available for students going to Community College: (in order by date)
Scholarship Name: Canadian Hospitality Foundation Scholarships
Scholarship Name: Garfield Weston Merit Scholarship for Colleges
Due Date: April 3, 2007
For Who?: For Canadian citizens or permanent resident;
be presently completing secondary school diploma/credentials or have been out of school for a minimum of three years (students presently enrolled in colleges (such as NSCC, NSAC, NBCC) doing their high school equivalency are eligible to apply);
be entering his or her first year of full-time college studies leading to a certificate, diploma or applied degree in the fall of 2007 (university transfer program or pre-university DEC students are not eligible);
be entering college studies of at least two years’ duration; and
have a minimum average of 75% in courses required for college program of choice.
Amount: Up to 25 GWMSC National Awards which comprise: a tuition waiver from a consortium college renewable for one or two additional years; an $8,000 stipend renewable for one or two additional years; and access to summer program funding.
Up to 18 GWMSC Regional Awards which comprise:a $4,000 one-year scholarship.
Up to 15 GWMSC Provincial Awards which comprise:a $2,500 one-year scholarship
Details: A GWMSC Scholar is an outstanding college student who is passionate about his or her field of study, curious, and willing to try new things;
caring about his or her family, neighbourhood and community; and
truly interested in becoming involved and making a difference in society

Also.... National SchoolLeadership Award - The $1000 National School Leadership Award, initiated in 2003 and funded by The W. Garfield Weston Foundation, is awarded to every high school which nominates a GWMSC National Award recipient. This award recognizes the essential contributions schools make in the development of young leaders and is intended to be used in the continuing development of leadership-based programs in your school. - Decided by scholarship committee, please do not ask to be considered for this award.

For Who?: High school students in their final year of school and who are enrolling in September of this year in a minimum two-year college diploma program in one of the following areas of training or study:
Accommodation,
Chef,
Cook,
Culinary,
Events,
Food and Beverage,
Golf Club,
Hospitality,
Hotel,
Resort,
Restaurant,
Tourism. Must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents

Details: Applications are reviewed by an independent panel of judges appointed by the Foundation and will be judged on the following criteria. Points assigned to each of the criteria (from a total of 100 points) are as follows:
1) Work experience (20): based on quality and length of work experience with extra points for foodservice, hospitality, and culinary-related experience 2)
Scholastic record (20): based on grade point average
3) Leadership and ability to get along with others (25): based on work experience, letters of reference and responses to application questions
4) Professional promise (25): based on work experience, letters of reference and responses to application questions
5) Discretionary points (10): given at the discretion of each judge and based amongst other things on quality of application (neatness, imagination and effort put into the presentation)

1) Final-year official transcripts from your previous academic year and report card from your current academic year (first semester/first term)

3) Letter/s of recommendation from past or present employers.Please note: school and employer letters must be on official stationery and must include telephone numbers and, where possible, e-mail addresses. The Foundation reserves the right to check all letters of recommendation.

Scholarship Name: Municipality of the Distict of Yarmouth
Due Date: April 20, 2007
For Who?: Deserving students who reside in the municipality of Yarmouth and will be attending a community college or trade school or university in the fall.
Amount: Two $500 bursaries.
Details: To be considered, pick up application in forms corner ordownload a form here and leave completed application with guidance. The application form will ask why you feel you require financial assistance.

Scholarship Name: Nova Scotia Teacher's Credit Union Educational Awards-$750
Due Date: Monday, May 15, 2005
For Who?: Must be a member of the Nova Scotia Teacher's Credit Union or child of a member
Amount: 2 awards of $1000 for for any student advancing to a Community College or similar institution
Details: Awards are based on academic achievement and participation in school and community

Scholarship Name: Saulnier's Home Hardware Construction Trades Scholarship
Due Date: Monday, June 12, 2006
For Who?: Student must be entering one of the following trades:
Carpentry, Electrical
or Plumbing. This scholarship is available to graduating students who are highly motivated, community minded and have demonstrated strong leadership skills in school and/or the community.
Amount: Maximum $2000

Scholarship Name: Tyler Fitzgerald Memorial Bursary

For Who?: For a student involved in Hockey. This student must be involved in Minor hockey or have been in the past. This is for a graduating student going to further their education (preference given to students going to community college)
Amount: $500 award
Details: Offered by the Yarmouth Minor Hockey
How to apply: Students need to write a letter to Yarmouth Co. Minor Hockey Association including:
-Plans for next year
-Why you feel you are deserving
-Your involvement in Hockey.

Scholarship Name: Nova Scotia Power Apprenticeship Scholarship
Due Date: Friday, June 17, 2005
For Who?: Available for students enrolling in a NSCC apprenticeship program in the following trades:
-Power engineering, Industrial Instrumentation Technican, Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Mechanic, Machinst, Certified Welder, Industrial Electrican, Chemical Technician or Utility Lineworker program (Marconi Campus).
Amount: 4 scholarships at $500 each
Details: Being offered by Nova Scotia Power and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union, Local 1928. Selection will be made on the basis of solid academic record. Must achieve a minimum overall average of 75% at the end of first semester. A passing grade must be achieved in all required subjects. The selection committee will also consider demonstrated leadership and service to the community and involvement in extra-curricular activities will be considered.
