Scholarship Name: Debut Atlantic RBC Music Award

Amount: $1000. Not only does the winner receive a $1000 prize but they are also recognized at a Debut Atlantic concert.
Details: The award which was established in 1999 is funded through an endowment fund created by the RBC Foundation and Debut Atlantic Society. So far the award has recognized winners or honourable mentions from all four Atlantic provinces.

For Who?: Top 20 Under 20, an award and mentoring program, is looking to award
young Canadians who have demonstrated a significant level of innovation,
achievement and leadership
Amount: Up to $2,000 to be applied towards an educational experience. Recognition as a Top 20 Under 20 winner through various media outlets.
All expense paid trip to Toronto for the Top 20 Under 20 ceremony.

There are 20 awards available. Award recipients will be selected
by an illustrious panel of judges that represent the top Canadians in

Scholarship Name: RBC Aboriginal Student Awards Program

For Who?: Status Indians, non-status Indians, Inuit or Metis are eligible to apply. Financial need is a consideration
Amount: $4000 annually for five aboriginal students.
Details:
RBC Financial Group's Aboriginal Student Awards Program was launched in 1992 to assist Aboriginal students to complete post secondary education, and provide an opportunity for RBC to strengthen it's relationship with the Aboriginal community. In addition, recipients who indicate an interest in pursuing a banking career are considered for summer and postgraduate employment at RBC.
Each year, five Aboriginal students will receive $4000 annually for their education expenses, to a maximum of four years at a University, or two years at a college, in disciplines related (but not restricted) to financial services industry. To be eligible, applications must be received at RBC Financial Group by January 31st of each year. Successful applications will be notified by March 31st.

Scholarship Name: The Mensa Canada Scholarship Programe

For Who?: Applicants must be at least 18 years old on January 31, 2006. Awards are based on applicant's essay.
Amount: $750 or $1000
Details: By writing your career plan and describing the means you undertake to achieve your goals, you may earn a scholarship of $750 or $1000.
The Mensa Canada Scholarship Programme wishes to reward students who follow through with their career strategy. To apply, all you need to do is to submit a 250 word essay.
Please read the following instructions carefully. Every year, students are disqualified for failing to meet one of the criteria, such as the deadline, the maximum length, or the subject matter of the essay.
Last year approximately 25% of the essays we received were disqualified! The reasons: students wrote more than 250 words, or they identified themselves in the essay. Don't let this happen to you!
How to apply: Write an essay describing your career goals in 250 words or less.
Your essay should describe specific goals (academic, vocational or career). It should contain explicit ideas and information.

For Who?: The Toyota Earth Day Scholarship Program encourages and rewards graduating high school students and Québec junior college students who have distinguished themselves through environmental community service, extracurricular and volunteer activities, and academic excellence.
Amount: The Toyota Earth Day Scholarship Program grants 15 awards of $5000 each annually, to be applied directly towards tuition, books, room and board (where applicable) or other educational expenses for the first year of post-secondary full-time studies in Canada.
There are 2 awards given in Altantic Canada.
Details: Toyota Canada Inc. and Earth Day Canada established the Toyota Earth Day Scholarship Program to help cultivate and nurture this environmental leadership. Scholarship Name: Terry Fox Humanitarian Award
Due Date: February 1st, 2006 (Feb.1st of every year)
For Who?: In recognition of having demonstrated the highest ideals and qualities of citizenship and humanitarian service while in pursuit of excellence in academic, amateur sport, fitness, health and voluntary community service. In so doing has reflected those ideals of courage, humanitarianism, service and compassion, which Terry Fox embodied. There is no set discipline students must study in order to receive the award, but they must maintain their academic, voluntary and career performance to a satisfactory level.
Amount: The value of the award is $7,000 per year, paid directly to the institution in two installments of $3,500 each. For students who do not pay tuition fees, the award is $3,500 per year, paid directly to the institution in two installments of $1,750 each.
Recipients of the Terry Fox Humanitarian Award may not receive more than $15,000 in total scholarships. If a student's awards exceed this amount, any excess will be deducted from the student's Terry Fox Award.
Details: The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award Program was established in 1982 through a grant by the Government of Canada to commemorate Terry's courage and tenacity in his cross-Canada Marathon of Hope. The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award recognizes the benevolence of young Canadians and encourages them to continue in their humanitarian work while attending college or university in Canada. It is open to graduating secondary school students and those currently studying towards their first university degree or diploma. Since its inception, close to one thousand Terry Fox Scholars from across the country and all walks of life have selflessly dedicated themselves to helping others less fortunate, at home, at school and in the community. Each year we receive hundreds of applications and typically recognize 20 new recipients from across the country. The alumni of our program count amont some of Canada's finest, including over 70 medical doctors, 50 teachers, and six graduates of the program who went on the win the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship to study at Oxford University.

Scholarship Name: The Nova Scotia Freemasons Scholarship
Due Date: Wednesday, Feb.15th, 2006
For Who?: Attending university or college.
Amount: 2 in the amount of $500 for our area.
Details: You must apply within the three days of being announced. To apply to be considered, you must fill out an application (very short) in forms corner and submit to Mr.Lesser or Bobby Lou. The Masonic Scholarship program has two principal objectives: 1) In keeping with the Masonic mission to practice charity, to provide financial assistance to worthy grade 12 graduating students who will pursue a post secondary education leading to a degree from an approved institution in Atlantic Canada, or a diploma, or certificate from a Community College in Nova Scotia. 2) To raise the public profile of the Masonic Fraternity in particular amoun the young adult population from whom our future membership will come.

Scholarship Name: National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation-Aboriginal Health Careers Scholarships

For Who?: A Canadian resident Aboriginal individual who is either First Nation status or non-status, Métis or Inuit;
Enrolled in a program of full-time post-secondary study – that is not less than two academic years – at an accredited university, college or CEGEP and pursuing a certificate, diploma or degree; there is an exception made for one-year upgrading programs such as nurse practitioner program after a Bachelor of Science in nursing;
Studying a branch of the health sciences such as: nursing, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, lab technology, physiotherapy, dietetics, health administration, public health policy.

For Who?: All students from grades 10-12. It is designed so that every eligible student who is willing to make an effort should be able to correctly answer all the questions and be included in the draw for scholarships.
Amount: There will be one $5000 prize, twenty $1000 prizes, and forty $500 prizes. Last year 51 students from across Canada won a total of $46,000. Non-graduating students can participate but they will not be eligible for the scholarships but the names of those with perfect scores will be entered into a draw for twenty (20) $100.00 prizes.
Details: The quiz has fifty multiple-choice questions on Canadian subjects.

Students can get help from friends, teachers and family.
The contest is on-line for four weeks.
Any student who answers all the questions correctly will be included in the draw for scholarships. Examples of Questions

Amount: Each award has a program value of $13,500 payable over a four year course of study as follows: $5000 in year one, $3500 in year two, $2500 in year three, and $2500 in year four. The number of scholar-bursaries available may vary from year to year.

Scholarship Name: BLAKE-KIRKPATRICK SCHOLARSHIPS-UNB

For Who?: For students entering UNB from a high school in the Maritime provinces.
Amount: $45,000 - $55,000 over four years. Four awards - Engineering (2), other disciplines (2) . A 3.7 Scholarship Grade Point Average is required each year to renew this scholarship.
Details: Awarded annually to students beginning an undergraduate degree program at the University of New
Brunswick upon graduation from a high school in any of the four Atlantic Provinces.
The scholarships are intended to support the education of future leaders. The applicants are therefore
asked to submit an essay (not less than 250 words) giving the Selection Committee an indication of their
leadership capabilities to date, including (but not limited to) school and extra-curricular activities.
Required in the essay is evidence of overcoming barriers or difficult situations.
Ten finalists will be interviewed in Fredericton on Friday, March 17 and Saturday, March 18, 2006. Travel
and accommodations will be covered. Attendance is required.

Amount: It is valued at $3,000, and is renewable for up to four years based on satisfactory academic performance. One is available each year.

Scholarship Name: The Canadian War Museum History Awards

Amount: The total value of the Awards consists of five prizes of $1000 each, to be distributed to five winning students.
Details: Every year, the Canadian War Museum selects a theme on which students must base their work. For 2006, students are to produce a work on the following theme:

About this year's theme: 2006 marks the 50th anniversary of the Suez Crisis, in which Canada played a leading role. At the height of this crisis, Canada’s then Secretary of State for External Affairs, Lester B. Pearson, proposed a UN peacekeeping force as a means of easing tensions in the Middle East; a plan which later garnered him the Nobel Peace Prize. Since then, Canadian troops have taken part in many peacekeeping and peace support operation in the Middle East.
Your original work should reflect on the subject of peacekeeping in the Middle East over the past fifty years. Has peacekeeping helped, or hindered, the Middle East peace process? What do you think of Canada’s involvement? Have you or your family been affected in any way by peacekeeping efforts in the region? Do you think the UN has been effective? Amount: The eighteen students who are short listed for an interview for the Bell Scholarship will be contacted in late March/early April to arrange a telephone interview to be held early in April. The top 6 Bell candidates will receive a $12,000 Bell Scholarship. The second six short-listed Bell scholarship candidates will be offered a $7,000 scholarship. The final six will be offered a top Mount Allison entrance scholarship. These scholarships are renewable to a maximum of four years. Renewal criteria will be included with the Bell Scholarship offer letter. Students with learning disabilities or other personal challenges will be fairly considered in both the application and the renewal process.
Details: Established in 2002 as the premier entrance scholarship at Mount A, the Bell Scholarship celebrates students who have demonstrated strong academic ability, leadership potential, volunteer work, extracurricular activities, work experience, and good citizenship. Mount Allison students have benefited from the generous contributions to the University made by the Bell Family (and the Bell Endowment Funds) over the years. Their generous support, through such scholarships as the Marguerite Deinstadt scholarships, the Ralph Pickard Bell scholarships, Mary Emerancy Pickard scholarship and various bursaries, has helped finance the academic careers of hundreds of Mount Allison students over the last 50 years, with scholarships and other forms of financial support.

Two letters of reference from the two individuals named in your application. One must be a teacher from your school, college or university. Scholarship Name: Nova Scotia Recycles Contest-Grade 10/11 Video contest
Due Date: Monday, Dec.4, 2006
For Who?: Grade 10/11 students interested in recycling and video making
Amount: Winning students in each region will receive a gift certificate to Mountain Equipment Co-op and a Nova Scotia Recycles prize package. The schools from which the seven winners are selected will receive $500 during a regional awards celebration to be held in February 2007.
Runners-up: A runner-up in each of the seven regions will be awarded a Nova Scotia Recycles prize package at a regional awards celebration in February 2007. Note: Winning regional entries in this contest may be developed into an actual advertisement that could be used by RRFB Nova Scotia for educational initiatives.
Details: Students in grades ten and eleven are invited to submit a television commercial in the form of a sales pitch or marketing campaign directed at their peers based on the theme “Why recycle and compost?”.
Guidelines: 1) Your students have been tasked with improving waste reduction and recycling programs at school. They will design a multi-media campaign that will be implemented at your school. Their message will be directed at youth aged 15-182) Students may choose to create a minimum of one of the following for their waste reduction campaign: 3) a. TV commercial - Submissions can be on VHS tape, CD ROM, or DVD. Please note that DVD and CD
footage should be saved as an “AVI” file. Maximum 1 minute.
b. Radio Ad – Submissions can be on CD ROM or DVD. Maximum 30 seconds.
c. Powerpoint Presentation – Maximum 20 slides.
d. Website – Maximum 6 pages.
e. Poster Campaign 3. Highly creative submissions are encouraged! Be sure to incorporate the themes of reduce, reuse, recycle,
and compost!
4. Students can work individually or in groups of up to four people.
5. Ensure the names of participating students, as well as their grade, teacher, and name of their school are
included on the submission.

Amount: Winning students in each region will receive a scholarship in the amount of one thousand dollars ($1,000), payable to any registered post-secondary institution as well as a Nova Scotia Recycles prize package, to be presented at a regional awards celebration in February 2007. Winning students should be prepared to present a brief summary of their essay at the celebration.
Runners-up: A runner-up in each of the seven regions will be awarded a scholarship in the amount of five hundred dollars ($500), payable to any registered post-secondary institution and a Nova Scotia Recycles prize package, to be presented at a regional awards celebration in February 2007.
Details: Students in Grade 12 are invited to submit a research essay based on the topic “How can Nova Scotia youth be motivated to recycle and compost more?” Contest entries will be evaluated by a committee according to the following criteria:
Accuracy of information,
Clarity and organization of ideas
Language, grammar and spelling,
Creativity
and Effort
Guidelines: 1) The essay must be typed and double-spaced, and should be between 1,000 – 1,500 words.
2) All contest entries must include a written executive summary of the essay that is approximately one page in
length, typed and double-spaced.
3. Research is expected and encouraged. Wherever possible, use factual information and statistics. All sources
of information must be referenced.
4. Please ensure that the title of your essay, your name, grade and the name of your school are included with
your contest entry. Also please include your home address and phone number so that scholarship winners
may be contacted during the summer months.

Scholarship Name: Shad Valley

For Who?: Grade 11 and 12 students. We're looking for people with creative and entrepreneurial minds, initiative and drive, excellent communications skills, leadership and teamwork abilities, and high academic success––especially in math and the sciences.
Amount: Thanks to our generous supporters, they are able to maintain a program fee of $2,250 (or $5,000 CDN for international students). The fee you pay covers all Shad Valley program activities, accommodations, and a full meal plan for the four week program. The only additional costs are transportation to and from your Shad Valley campus.
There are 10 scholarships worth $3000 each. You do not need to submit additional documentation to be considered for a scholarship. Scholarships are awarded based solely on merit and the strength of the application.

It's a program of infinite possibilities. . .a place where you can meet challenges head-on, and learn from the experience. You don't do it alone - you meet people with the same drive to excel that you have. You forge lifetime friendships, you work together with those friends, and you stretch the limits. Bottom line: you're going to be challenged, you're going to learn, and it's going to be fun. You'll be on a leading university campus for four weeks, working hands-on with 50 like-minded individuals, with access to more resources and excellent thinkers than are often found collected in one place.
There are twelve Shad Valley host campuses for 2007. They have room for up to 625 students from Grades 11 or 12 (Quebec Secondaire V, CEGEP I or II), or the international equivalent. We've had participants come from all parts of Canada, as well as the United States, Barbados, Hong Kong, and Scotland.
