Scholarship Name: Terry Fox Humanitarian Award
Due Date: February 1st, 2007 (Feb.1st of every year)
For Who?: In recognition of having demonstrated the highest ideals and qualities of citizenship and humanitarian service while in pursuit of excellence in academic, amateur sport, fitness, health and voluntary community service. In so doing has reflected those ideals of courage, humanitarianism, service and compassion, which Terry Fox embodied. There is no set discipline students must study in order to receive the award, but they must maintain their academic, voluntary and career performance to a satisfactory level.
Amount: The value of the award is $7,000 per year, paid directly to the institution in two installments of $3,500 each. For students who do not pay tuition fees, the award is $3,500 per year, paid directly to the institution in two installments of $1,750 each.
Recipients of the Terry Fox Humanitarian Award may not receive more than $15,000 in total scholarships. If a student's awards exceed this amount, any excess will be deducted from the student's Terry Fox Award.
Details: The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award Program was established in 1982 through a grant by the Government of Canada to commemorate Terry's courage and tenacity in his cross-Canada Marathon of Hope. The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award recognizes the benevolence of young Canadians and encourages them to continue in their humanitarian work while attending college or university in Canada. It is open to graduating secondary school students and those currently studying towards their first university degree or diploma. Since its inception, close to one thousand Terry Fox Scholars from across the country and all walks of life have selflessly dedicated themselves to helping others less fortunate, at home, at school and in the community. Each year we receive hundreds of applications and typically recognize 20 new recipients from across the country. The alumni of our program count amont some of Canada's finest, including over 70 medical doctors, 50 teachers, and six graduates of the program who went on the win the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship to study at Oxford University.
How to apply: In order to be considered for a Terry Fox Humanitarian Award, students must submit an application form in Microsoft Word format, three referee forms and an official transcript of the past two years of schooling - no other forms are required. Incomplete application forms will not be considered.

For Who?: To be eligible you must:
1. Be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant
2. Plan to register as a full-time student, in September of the upcoming school year, at a recognized University, Community College,
Technical Institute or other post-secondary institution for advanced learning
3. MAIL this application to one only of a Kinsmen, Kinette, or Kin Club nearest your permanent residence. (This information can be found on
the bursary website at www.bursary.ca )
4. Demonstrate high ideals and qualities of citizenship, and not have previously received a bursary from the Hal Rogers Endowment Fund

Details: Kin Canada Bursaries, a program of the Hal Rogers Endowment Fund, was established in 1994 by Kin Canada as a legacy to its Founder, Harold Allin Rogers, O.C., O.B.E. (1899-1994) and is funded by Kinsmen and Kinettes across Canada. The program was established to promote, encourage and sponsor educational programs and activities, by providing assistance to applicants in their quest for higher learning at a recognized post-secondary institution.
How to apply: Download application here. 1) The original application form must be completed, legible in black ink or electronically, within the space provided and MUST be mailed to your nearest Kinsmen, Kinette or Kin Club by February 1st. The application will not be eligible for consideration if mailed directly to Kin Canada or if mailed to more than one Kinsmen, Kinette, or Kin Club.
2) You must attach a copy of your most recent full year school transcript. You may be requested to submit an authorized transcript, if selected to receive a bursary.
3) You must attach a photocopy of proof of citizenship. Acceptable proof is a Canadian birth certificate, Canadian passport, a certificate of Canadian citizenship or a Canadian Immigration Record.
NOTE: The responsibility for the completed application form rests with the applicant. Please complete the application as requested.
Do not submit attachments (other than transcript and citizenship proof) such as resumes, newspaper clippings, references, etc.
4) The program's Board of Trustees reserves the right to authenticate all information pertaining to the application.
5) Kin Canada reserves the right to use recipient's name for promotional purposes.
6) All information on the application will be held in the strictest confidence.
7) All sponsoring clubs and successful applicants will be notified of the Board of Trustees decision. This decision will be final.

Scholarship Name: Tim Horton's Scholarship Program
Due Date: Between February 13th, 2007 and April 12th, 2007
For Who?: Designed to recognize store employees and their children or grandchildren who believe in giving back to the community (through volunteer work) and would like to pursue post secondary education. Applicants must have a minimum of 15 hours volunteer work over a one year period. This can be accomplished through participating in voluntary Camp Day activities, the Tim-Bits soccer or hockey programs, or by volunteering for any number of meaningful community organizations..
Amount: A total of 220 scholarships will be awarded this year, 200 in Canada and 20 in the United States. Each scholarship is valued at $1,000 CDN/USD.

Scholarship Name: The Nova Scotia Freemasons Scholarship
Due Date: Wednesday, Feb.15th, 2006
For Who?: Attending university or college.
Amount: 2 in the amount of $500 for our area.
Details: You must apply within the three days of being announced. To apply to be considered, you must fill out an application (very short) in forms corner and submit to Bobby Lou or Mr.Lesser. The Masonic Scholarship program has two principal objectives: 1) In keeping with the Masonic mission to practice charity, to provide financial assistance to worthy grade 12 graduating students who will pursue a post secondary education leading to a degree from an approved institution in Atlantic Canada, or a diploma, or certificate from a Community College in Nova Scotia. 2) To raise the public profile of the Masonic Fraternity in particular amoun the young adult population from whom our future membership will come.
How to apply: To apply, sign the sheet by Ms.Reardon's door. Grad Info sheets may be used to make a decision on who our school nominates. YCMHS will submit 2 names to the Freemasons by March 9th, 2006 after a decision has been made.

Due Date: Monday, January 15, 2007 - Monday, February 19, 2007
For Who?: All students from grades 10-12. It is designed so that every eligible student who is willing to make an effort should be able to correctly answer all the questions and be included in the draw for scholarships.
Amount: There will be one $5000 prize, twenty $1000 prizes, and forty $500 prizes. Last year 51 students from across Canada won a total of $46,000. Non-graduating students can participate but they will not be eligible for the scholarships but the names of those with perfect scores will be entered into a draw for twenty (20) $100.00 prizes.
Details: The quiz has fifty multiple-choice questions on Canadian subjects.
All answers are linked to information on the web.
Students can get help from friends, teachers and family.
The contest is on-line for four weeks.
Any student who answers all the questions correctly will be included in the draw for scholarships. Examples of Questions

Make sure you select our school when participating to be eligible for the awards. During that time students can register and access the questions. They will have over two weeks to complete the quiz. Our school was one of the TOP 10 SCHOOLS to participate in this program in 2005-2006.

Scholarship Name: The Mathieu Da Costa Challenge
Due Date: Friday, February 23, 2007
For Who?: If you're between the ages of 9 and 18, you can participate in the Challenge. You'll get to use your creative talents and discover how people from different ethnocultural backgrounds have helped make Canada what it is today. You just submit an original piece of writing or artwork celebrating the contributions made by Canadians of Aboriginal, African or other ethnocultural backgrounds to the building of Canada.
Amount: Each winner, accompanied by a parent/guardian, will receive:
a three-day, all-expenses paid trip to Nova Scotia in April 2007, including transportation, meals and hotel stay;
three days of fun-filled activities;
VIP tickets to the Mathieu Da Costa Awards Ceremony in Halifax, Nova Scotia;
a Certificate of Achievement; and
other awesome prizes.
Details: Canada is one of the world's most culturally diverse countries, comprising citizens from more than 200 ethnic backgrounds. In fact, the quality of life we enjoy today as Canadians can, in many instances, be traced to the significant contributions made by Canadians of Aboriginal, African and other ethnocultural backgrounds throughout our history. The Mathieu Da Costa Challenge is an annual writing and artwork contest launched in 1996 by the Department of Canadian Heritage. The Challenge encourages youth to discover how diversity has shaped Canada's history and the important role that multiculturalism plays in Canadian society. Mathieu Da Costa was a navigator and interpreter of African descent who likely travelled extensively throughout the Atlantic world in the late 1500s and early 1600s.
