Scholarship Name: Toyota Earth Day Scholarship
Due Date: Tuesday January 31, 2007
For Who?:   The Toyota Earth Day Scholarship Program encourages and rewards graduating high school students and Québec junior college students who have distinguished themselves through environmental community service, extracurricular and volunteer activities, and academic excellence.
Amount:  The Toyota Earth Day Scholarship Program grants 15 awards of $5000 each annually, to be applied directly towards tuition, books, room and board (where applicable) or other educational expenses for the first year of post-secondary full-time studies in Canada.    There are 2 awards given in Altantic Canada.
Details:   Toyota Canada Inc. and Earth Day Canada established the Toyota Earth Day Scholarship Program to help cultivate and nurture this environmental leadership. The Toyota Earth Day Scholarship Program encourages and rewards graduating high school students and Québec junior college students who have distinguished themselves through environmental community service, extracurricular and volunteer activities, and academic excellence. Because environmental issues are increasingly being tackled through multidisciplinary approaches, future environmental leaders will come from a broad range of academic backgrounds. The Toyota Earth Day Scholarship is offered to students entering their first year of post-secondary studies in the discipline of their choice, to prepare themselves for the career of their choice.

Scholarship Name: The Canadian Hard of Hearing Scholarship
Due Date: Weduesday January 31, 2007
For Who?:    The purpose of the Scholarship Program is to offer financial assistance and recognition to hard of hearing and deafened students registered in a full time program at a recognized Canadian college or university, in any area of study, with the ultimate goal of obtaining a diploma or degree. Applicants to this Scholarship Program must be either hard of hearing, deafened or oral deaf. Support documentation is required.  Applications will be judged by a number of criteria including academic achievement, determination to cope with hearing loss, and community involvement.
Amount:   two awards of $1,000 each will be granted..
Details:   The Canadian Hard of Hearing Association Scholarship Program was established in 2002. This Program is supported by donations of the members of the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association (CHHA) and by the generous contribution from the Algar family. The mandate of CHHA is to encourage awareness of hearing loss and to advocate self-help for hard of hearing or deafened people. Its aim is to achieve full hearing accessibility in Canadian society. The Canadian Hard of Hearing Association Foundation (CHHAF) was established to create a perpetual financial legacy to support the activities of CHHA, and create specific initiatives for hard of hearing or deafened persons in Canada. The Algar family wishes to continue to support the work of their parents, particularly their father, who was a strong advocate of the rights of hard of hearing people and his great faith in young people.

Scholarship Name: Terry Fox Humanitarian Award
Due Date: February 1st, 2007 (Feb.1st of every year)
For Who?:    In recognition of having demonstrated the highest ideals and qualities of citizenship and humanitarian service while in pursuit of excellence in academic, amateur sport, fitness, health and voluntary community service. In so doing has reflected those ideals of courage, humanitarianism, service and compassion, which Terry Fox embodied.  There is no set discipline students must study in order to receive the award, but they must maintain their academic, voluntary and career performance to a satisfactory level.
Amount:  The value of the award is $7,000 per year, paid directly to the institution in two installments of $3,500 each. For students who do not pay tuition fees, the award is $3,500 per year, paid directly to the institution in two installments of $1,750 each.    Recipients of the Terry Fox Humanitarian Award may not receive more than $15,000 in total scholarships. If a student's awards exceed this amount, any excess will be deducted from the student's Terry Fox Award.
Details:   The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award Program was established in 1982 through a grant by the Government of Canada to commemorate Terry's courage and tenacity in his cross-Canada Marathon of Hope. The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award recognizes the benevolence of young Canadians and encourages them to continue in their humanitarian work while attending college or university in Canada. It is open to graduating secondary school students and those currently studying towards their first university degree or diploma.   Since its inception, close to one thousand Terry Fox Scholars from across the country and all walks of life have selflessly dedicated themselves to helping others less fortunate, at home, at school and in the community. Each year we receive hundreds of applications and typically recognize 20 new recipients from across the country. The alumni of our program count amont some of Canada's finest, including over 70 medical doctors, 50 teachers, and six graduates of the program who went on the win the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship to study at Oxford University.
How to apply:  In order to be considered for a Terry Fox Humanitarian Award, students must submit an application form in Microsoft Word format, three referee forms and an official transcript of the past two years of schooling - no other forms are required. Scholarship Name:  Canadian Principals Award
Due Date: Wednesday, March 1, 2007
For Who?:  Principal can nominate one student from our school for this award.  This student should demonstrate outstanding leadership. Nominees should be in the top 20% of their class.
Amount: Twenty-one scholarships of $500.00 each will be awarded.
Details:   The Canadian Association of Principals and Premier School Agendas Ltd. are once again proud to sponsor this award this year. The purpose of this award is to afford principals the opportunity to recognize one of their student leaders and to enter that student as a nominee for a national scholarship.
How to apply:  YCMHS principal will select one student who will complete the
following application.  Please do not ask the principal to be considered for this award.  The selected student from our school will also receive a certificate from the school.

Scholarship Name: First Nations and Indigenous Black Students Scholarship- Dalhousie
Due Date: Wednesday, March 15, 2006
For Who?:   Available to First Nations and Indigenous Black students, who are residents of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick or Prince Edward Island, and are entering Dalhousie for the first time.    Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of a student's financial need and academic standing.
Amount:  Ten renewable entrance scholarships valued at $3,000 each are available.   Valued at $12,000 over four years.
Details: Scholarships are available to students who are applying directly from high school as well as those who have attended another post-secondary institution.   Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of a student's financial need and academic standing. Please submit a completed application to the Assistant Registrar, Awards by March 15.

Scholarship Name:  Mount A Bell Scholarship
Due Date: Wednesday, March 15, 2006
For Who?:   Students applying to Mount A who have demonstrated strong academic ability, leadership potential, volunteer work, extracurricular activities, work experience, and good citizenship.    
Amount: The eighteen students who are short listed for an interview for the Bell Scholarship will be contacted in late March/early April to arrange a telephone interview to be held early in April. The top 6 Bell candidates will receive a $12,000 Bell Scholarship. The second six short-listed Bell scholarship candidates will be offered a $7,000 scholarship. The final six will be offered a top Mount Allison entrance scholarship. These scholarships are renewable to a maximum of four years.    Renewal criteria will be included with the Bell Scholarship offer letter.    Students with learning disabilities or other personal challenges will be fairly considered in both the application and the renewal process.
Details:  Established in 2002 as the premier entrance scholarship at Mount A, the Bell Scholarship celebrates students who have demonstrated strong academic ability, leadership potential, volunteer work, extracurricular activities, work experience, and good citizenship.  Mount Allison students have benefited from the generous contributions to the University made by the Bell Family (and the Bell Endowment Funds) over the years. Their generous support, through such scholarships as the Marguerite Deinstadt scholarships, the Ralph Pickard Bell scholarships, Mary Emerancy Pickard scholarship and various bursaries, has helped finance the academic careers of hundreds of Mount Allison students over the last 50 years, with scholarships and other forms of financial support.
How to apply:  To be considered for this prestigious scholarship, applicants must ensure that the following documentation has been submitted to the university along with the application for admission. Students who have already submitted the application for admission but who wish to be considered for this scholarship should forward additional documentation by March 15th:
1. Application for admission and application fee. 2. Official transcripts indicating academic performance to date. (Your official transcript submitted for admission consideration will be used.) 3. Outline of extracurricular activities over the past years (not just the current year); submit a list specifically for this scholarship. 4. Scholarship Name: The Primrose Scholarship (UNBSJ)
Due Date: Thursday, March 15, 2007
For Who?:   Recognizing academic achievement, community involvement and athletic leadership.  
Amount:  $5000
Details: The Primrose Scholarship was developed by UNB Saint John alumna Sandra Irving (BA 95) to recognize students who have demonstrated leadership potential. She led the way in fundraising activities to establish the scholarship in 1999. Mrs. Irving continues to be involved with the winners and in the stewardship of the scholarship.   
How to apply:  To apply, send a cover letter requesting consideration, a resume emphasizing extracurricular activities, latest high school transcript and a 500 word essay on the following topic: Discuss the qualities that define leadership.  An additional copy of the latest high school transcript is not necessary to include with your Primrose application if you have already included it with application for admission to UNB Saint John. Please make a note of this in your letter requesting consideration for the Primrose Scholarship.

Scholarship Name:  Hockey Nova Scotia-B.F. Lorenzetti & Assoc. Insurance Brokers Athletic/Academic Award
Due Date:  March 31, 2007
For Who?:    The BF Lorenzetti & Associates International Insurance Brokers Award is presented annually to a male or female student athlete entering a program of study at a technical school, college, or university in Canada. The applicant will have an acceptable academic standing, a high level of hockey skill through participation in Hockey Nova Scotia registered hockey and have established a record of community volunteer service.
Amount:  1 award at $1000
Details:   Hockey NS recognizes individuals in amateur hockey who have achieved a high level of performance both on and off the ice.  In addition to maintaining a high academic standing, these individuals have clearly demonstrated exceptional ability on the ice either as a player or a game official together with exemplary character qualities having upheld the principles of sportmanship and fair play.

For Who?:   Practicing Catholics of good moral character who reside in Nova Scotia, who have completed Nova Scotia Grade Xl or Grade Xll and who are in need of financial assistance - High academic standing - Other things being equal, preference will be given to members

Scholarship Name:  Garfield Weston Merit Scholarship for Colleges
Due Date:  April 3, 2007
For Who?:   For Canadian citizens or permanent resident; be presently completing secondary school diploma/credentials or have been out of school for a minimum of three years (students presently enrolled in colleges (such as NSCC, NSAC, NBCC) doing their high school equivalency are eligible to apply); be entering his or her first year of full-time college studies leading to a certificate, diploma or applied degree in the fall of 2007 (university transfer program or pre-university DEC students are not eligible); be entering college studies of at least two years’ duration; and have a minimum average of 75% in courses required for college program of choice.   
Amount:  Up to 25 GWMSC National Awards which comprise: a tuition waiver from a consortium college renewable for one or two additional years; an $8,000 stipend renewable for one or two additional years; and access to summer program funding.   Up to 18 GWMSC Regional Awards which comprise:a $4,000 one-year scholarship.  Up to 15 GWMSC Provincial Awards which comprise:a $2,500 one-year scholarship

Scholarship Name: Pengrowth-Nova Scotia Energy Scholarship
Due Date: April 27, 2007
For Who?: A Nova Scotia Student entering undergraduate studies in business, sciences or engineering at a provincial university.  Average of 75%.  Not receiving additional scholarship support in excess of $2,500.
Amount:   Ten scholarships of $2,500 (renewable for up to four years).

For Who?: A Nova Scotia Student planning to enter energy trades and technology programs at NSCC.  Some programs that may qualify are Architectural engineering program, drafting, electrical construction and industrial, electrical engineering technology, electronic or mechanical engineering technology, industrial instrumentation technician, mechanical engineering technology.
Amount:  Ten scholarships of $2,500 (non-renewable).

Scholarship Name: Rose Benteau and Jack Stuewe Province House Credit Union
Due Date:  May 11, 2007
For Who?:   Students advancing to a post secondary institution for full time studies.  All awards are based on academic achievement and participation in school and community activities. Applicants must be a member of the child of a member of Province House Credit Union.
Amount:  2 @ $1000
Details:  Applicants should include a copy of their 'resume'.  Winners are chosen by a committee of the Board of Directors of Province House Credit Union.

Scholarship Name: PA Best Education Scholarship
Due Date: May 12th, 2006
For Who?:   Must be a student of African Descent, scholarship is based on need.
Amount:  $1000 scholarship.  If more than one applicant is eligible, two awards may be given in the amount of $500 each.
Details:  Must be graduating from YCMHS, must have a good academic standing, must be attending a college or university in the upcoming academic year, must be active in community or school.  The selection process is made by members of the Yarmouth Greenville Education Committee/Family members.  The recipent will be notified at graduation.  The payment of scholarship will be made payable to the recipient and the university/college of choice in January of their first academic year.
How to apply: Fill out application (pick up in guidance office).  You also need to include a photocopy of your acceptance letter to either college or university and 2 letters of reference (one academic source (teacher, guidance counsellor, student support worker, regional educator, Principal), One reference from someone who is not a family member (employer, friend, etc.).  Acceptance letter and letters of reference should be sent along with completed application.

Scholarship Name:  Royal Bank Financial Lifeskills Scholarships
Due Date: Friday, May 12, 2006
For Who?:   Attend any post-secondary in Canada.  To be eligible, students require a minimum grade average of 65 per cent and acceptance into a Canadian college or university (and/or CEGEP in Quebec) for full-time study in the Fall/Winter session.  Must illustrate some involvement in any or all of the following areas: Community leadership, extra-curricular activities, special endeavours or circumstances, volunteer service, outside interests and/or hobbies, career and educational objectives.
Amount:  10 @ $2005
Details:   The award is open to all Canadian citizens and permanent residents as detailed above, except employees of RBC Bank or any of its affliated companies, and members of their immediate families.

Scholarship Name:  Ron O'Flaherty Scholar Athlete Award
Due Date: Friday, May 19th, 2006
For Who?:   Scholar-athlete must have a minimum of 85 percent average in six grade twelve subjects; ✒ Cannot be a returning graduate;  Has been a participant in an NSSAF Championship event (District, Regional or Provincial);  Demonstrated outstanding leadership, athletic ability and sportsmanship during their senior high school athletic career.  
Amount:  $750. scholarship to be awarded at the Senior High School level to the top female and top male from each Region;
Details:   Scholarship recipients will receive payment upon confirmation of registration at post secondary institution.  Each school may nominate one male and one female athlete only.

Scholarship Name:  Learning Matters Education Charity
Due Date: Wednesday, May 31, 2006
For Who?: To be eligible, an applicant must be:  1) a Canadian citizen or have landed immigrant status in Canada 2) entering or enrolled in a full-time post-secondary education program at a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution 3) able to demonstrate financial need, and one or more of community involvement, academic excellence, and career objectives which will make a positive contribution in Canadian society.  Applications will be considered on the basis of financial need and other factors including community involvement, academic excellence, and career objectives. A telephone interview will be conducted with applicants where additional information is required by the Awards Selection Committee.
Amount:  Learning Matters is pleased to make available 6 bursaries across the country. Each bursary is valued at $2,500 and is to be applied towards the cost of tuition. Bursary recipients will be notified in writing by August 15, 2006, and the funds will be forwarded to the applicable post-secondary school by September 15, 2006.
Details:   Learning Matters Education Charity is committed to providing financial assistance to Canadian children who would not otherwise have the financial means to obtain a post-secondary education. Bursaries are made available to Canadian post-secondary students who have a stated objective to make a positive contribution to Canadian society, and who have a demonstrated financial need.

Scholarship Name:  Shaun Saunders Scholarship
Due Date: Wednesday, June 14th, 2006
For Who?:    A student accepted and enrols in a recognized university or college, has shown academic achievement during high school years and has
shown as contributing to the school atmosphere through friendly interaction with other students and staff.
Amount:  $500
Details:   A scholarship in the amount of $500 will be awarded in memory of Shaun Patrick SAUNDERS by his family.  The scholarship is non-renewable and is awarded to a student of YCMHS annually.

For Who?:     Any student with a minimum 85% average and attending one of the folowing universities:  Bishop's University, Dalhousie University, Lakehead University, McGill University, McMaster University, Memorial University, Mount Allison University, Queen's University, Simor Fraser University, Universite Laval, Universite de Moncton, Universite de Montreal, University of Alberta, University of British Columbia, University of Calgary, University of Guelph, University of King's College, University of Manitoba, University of New Brunswick, University of Ottawa, University of Saskatchewan, University of Toronto, University of Waterloo, University of Western Ontario, York University.
Amount:  Up to $8,000 per year plus a tuition stipend for up to four years of full-time undergraduate study at any one of our participating Canadian universities.
Details:   CMSF is Canada's largest independent granting organization of awards for postsecondary undergraduate study. Scholarship Name:  Shad Valley

For Who?:    Grade 11 and 12 students.   We're looking for people with creative and entrepreneurial minds, initiative and drive, excellent communications skills, leadership and teamwork abilities, and high academic success––especially in math and the sciences.
Amount:  Thanks to our generous supporters, they are able to maintain a program fee of $2,250 (or $5,000 CDN for international students). The fee you pay covers all Shad Valley program activities, accommodations, and a full meal plan for the four week program. The only additional costs are transportation to and from your Shad Valley campus.
There are 10 scholarships worth $3000 each.   You do not need to submit additional documentation to be considered for a scholarship. Scholarships are awarded based solely on merit and the strength of the application.

Download Student Brochure here. Shad Valley will be held in July 2, 2007.  Shad Valley is unlike anything you've encountered. It's a program of infinite possibilities. . .a place where you can meet challenges head-on, and learn from the experience. You don't do it alone - you meet people with the same drive to excel that you have. You forge lifetime friendships, you work together with those friends, and you stretch the limits. Bottom line: you're going to be challenged, you're going to learn, and it's going to be fun. You'll be on a leading university campus for four weeks, working hands-on with 50 like-minded individuals, with access to more resources and excellent thinkers than are often found collected in one place.
There are twelve Shad Valley host campuses for 2007. They have room for up to 625 students from Grades 11 or 12 (Quebec Secondaire V, CEGEP I or II), or the international equivalent. We've had participants come from all parts of Canada, as well as the United States, Barbados, Hong Kong, and Scotland.

Amount:  $1000 each- 1500 awards given in Canada, US and Puerto Rico.

Thanks to the fundraising efforts of 2,500 BURGER KING® restaurants nationwide, we've granted more than $8.5 million to students throughout the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. For Who?:    Students that have demonstrated positive and verifiable service to the community, Academic achievement, Demonstrated capacity for leadership and ability to motivate others and demonstrated interest in innovation.
Amount:  100 national awards of $5,000, renewable for up to 3 additional years, for a possible total of $20,000, 241 provincial/territorial awards of $4,000, renewable for up to 3 additional years, for a possible total of $16,000,  711 one-time local awards of $4,000.
Details:   Each year, the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation grants 1,052 entrance awards to students beginning post-secondary studies for the first time as part of its Millennium Excellence Award Program. The entrance awards seek to recognize the leaders of today and tomorrow and emphasize the importance of supporting their contributions to our country’s future.  Millennium excellence awards are not prizes for benchmarks achieved - they are investments in the development of exceptional individuals who will have long, productive careers and whose accomplishments will benefit Canada as a whole. The Foundation distributes up to five per cent of its annual allocation through its Millennium Excellence Award Program.

Details:   The program will again recognize Canadian high school students in their graduating year who have not only worked hard, but have given back to their communities. Ideal candidates are well-rounded students that excel in three areas: scholastic achievement, extracurricular activity and community involvement. Recipients of scholarships will be honored as: "Wendy's Classic Achievers"
