For Who?: Graduating high school seniors who plan to attend college/university in the following year and who have demonstrated a commitment to developing or participating in interfaith programs and activities while attending high school.
Amount: 4 scholarships of $1000
Details:
Specifically, these scholarships will be awarded in recognition of work done on the part of the student to bring together fellow students of different faith traditions on an ongoing basis, or to likewise bring together community members of different faith traditions, to participate in a program or programs in school or in the community, or to carry out a project or projects in school or in the community, which programs or projects will expose the participants to each other's faith traditions. Applications should include descriptions of the groups, programs, or projects involved.
As further qualification, each student applying for these program Scholarships will be asked to supply a copy of his/her high school transcript and two letters of recommendation, one of which should be from a teacher who is an advisor to, a participant in, or otherwise knowledgeable about the project or program on which the student is basing her/his application.

For Who?: Graduating high school seniors who plan to attend college/university in the following year and who have participated in a supervised research project during their senior year.
Amount: 4 scholarships of $500
Details: Supervised research projects are projects which should involve the student primarily in reading about the beliefs and practices of one or more religions of the world other than his/her own. The goal of the reading will be to supply the student with material for an essay of 500 words in length. The essay should briefly cite the material read, stating in the student's words the themes which caught the student's attention. The essay should then discuss what effect the reading had on the student's opinions or attitudes. (A 500 word essay will not be longer than four 8.5" by 11" pages of single-spaced, 12 point font). ALL ESSAYS MUS BE PRINTED, rather than hand-written. The primary determinate of the award will be the essay.
Other important details about the Swissair 111 Memorial research scholarships:
Students interested in applying for a research scholarship must first fill in and submit a "Notification Form" as far in advance of the essay submission deadline as possible in the student's senior year. (A copy of the research scholarship notification form can be found in guidance.) In order to complete the notification form, the student first must obtain the approval of a "supervising teacher" who is willing to provide guidance to the student during both the research phase, and the writing phase for the essay.

Scholarship Name: Teletoon Animation Scholarship Award Competition

For Who?: Enrolling in animation program; portfolio; application
Amount: $2000-$5000
Details: Since 1997, when TELETOON invited key members of the animation industry to oversee the development of an animation scholarship program, the network is continuing the leadership Canada has always shown in the animation industry by encouraging emerging talent, promoting up-and-coming artists and providing a platform for original ideas. You’ll find some of them have packed their bags and headed down to Pixar Animation Studios; others have been snatched by the likes of Nelvana and Studio B; while some continue to work on their own independent films and future Oscar nominated works. And in achieving such feats, they all have had something in common: they have received encouragement and financial support from the TELETOON Animation Scholarship Award. In the past eight years, they have awarded over $230,000 to Canadian students studying animation, ranging from graduating high school students to mature students hoping to redirect their career.

Scholarship Name: Yarmouth Public Library and Museum Scholarship
Due Date: Monday, June 5, 2006
For Who?: Any Grade 12 student at YCMHS.
Amount: $3000 that will be split into "chunks".
Details: You must complete an application form and enclose a sample of your creative prose writing with the application. This may be a piece of your own choosing, but not a research paper (should be typed). It will be used by the selection committee in reaching their final decision. Marks must be handwritten on application form and a transcript included.

Scholarship Name: Coastal Financial Credit Union
Due Date: Friday, June 9, 2006
For Who?: Student or parent must be a member of coastal Financial Credit Union for at least 1 year
Amount: 4 individual $1000 bursaries
Details: Open to graduates from local high schools continuing their education at either a University of Community College. Eligible candidates will be selected from either Yarmouth, Barrington, Ecole secondaire de Par-en-Bas or Drumlin Heights High Schools. The graduate must have a co-operate spirit at school and in his/her community, as well as demonstrating leadership and motivation. Scholastic achievement will be taken into consideration; please submit the transcript of your marks.

Scholarship Name: Royal Canadian Legion Branch 143 Bursary
Due Date: June 10, 2006
For Who?: A graduate that is a child or grandchild of an ex-service person, living in the Branch's district (Brooklyn, Hebron, Cape Forchu, Overton, Pembroke, Sandford, Chegoggin, Wellington, Short Beach, Darlings Lake, Port Maitland, Cedar Lake and Beaver River.
Amount: $500 bursary
Details: The bursary will be applied to the recipient's university account for the final semester in the first year of study. There is no application form for these bursaries. You must complete a letter, see below:

1) your name, address and telephone number.
2) your relationship to a named ex-service person.
3) the name of the university you will attend and the course of study for which you have been accepted.

Scholarship Name: Trapper's Association of Nova Scotia: Marion Sweet Memorial Bursary

For Who?: You must have completed high school, enrolled in any institution of higher learning, be a trapper or member of the Trappers Association or dependent of a Trappers Association Member or a dependent of active trappers.
Amount: $500
Details: This bursary will be issued to the successful student upon furnishing proof of registration for the second semester of study. Your application must include:
1) A written statement of trapping and the use of fur in today's world
2) A personal statement of suitability (I should be considered for this award because..)

Details: Offered by the Yarmouth County Federation of Agriculture in the amount of $500.
How to apply: To be considered, a student will have to do two things:
1) Supply proof of his or her acceptance at a post secondary institution in a course of study leading to a career in Agriculture.
2) Write a short essay about themselves with special emphasis on their reasons for choosing agriculture as a career. This essay should be no longer than 500 words.

For Who?: Students entering full time study in the "arts" with a good average (75% or higher)
Amount: $800
Details: Award is based on a combination of good average marks (75% or higher), involvement in school or community activities including part time jobs. Award is also based on financial need.

Details: A scholarship in the amount of $500 will be awarded in memory of Shaun Patrick SAUNDERS by his family. The scholarship is non-renewable and is awarded to a student of YCMHS annually.

Details: Being offered by Nova Scotia Power and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union, Local 1928. Selection will be made on the basis of solid academic record. Must achieve a minimum overall average of 75% at the end of first semester. A passing grade must be achieved in all required subjects. The selection committee will also consider demonstrated leadership and service to the community and involvement in extra-curricular activities will be considered.

Scholarship Name: Graham Pinsent Memorial Bursary
Due Date: June 21, 2007
For Who?: Students that are 25 and under and lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered. Students must be accepted to or attending any post-secondary institution and a resident of Nova Scotia.
Amount: $500
Details: Information sheet available for download here. Graham was an active member of the Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Youth Project of Nova Scotia. He was known and loved by many and was always willing to lend a hand, especially to the Youth Project. Over the many years of service he provided to the Youth Project, he helped organize social events, fundraise, or even take the time to drive a VW Beetle for Halifax Pride. Graham was an active member of the Youth Project's Board of Directors and the Youth Board. Throughout Graham's busy schedule, he continually worked hard to finish his high school education. Fighting his illness made this a daunting task but he successful in completing many of his courses. It was felt by many that a memorial bursary to help other gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered youth in their pursuit of higher education was an fitting way to personify Graham in his struggle to complete his education as well as the spirit he left to the Youth Project.

Details: This fund was established through a gift committmnt made to the RCGA Foundation in memory of Elizabeth (Lib) and Harold (Hal) Connor in recognition of their contribution to golf and business in Nova Scotia.
