Scholarship Name: Tim Horton's Scholarship Program
Due Date: Between February 13th, 2007 and April 12th, 2007
For Who?:   Designed to recognize store employees and their children or grandchildren who believe in giving back to the community (through volunteer work) and would like to pursue post secondary education. Applicants must have a minimum of 15 hours volunteer work over a one year period. This can be accomplished through participating in voluntary Camp Day activities, the Tim-Bits soccer or hockey programs, or by volunteering for any number of meaningful community organizations..
Amount:  A total of 220 scholarships will be awarded this year, 200 in Canada and 20 in the United States. Each scholarship is valued at $1,000 CDN/USD.

Scholarship Name: The Commonwealth Essay Competition

For Who?:   Anyone grade 11 or 12 that is interested in writing (essay is 1500-2000 words).
Amount:  1st - £600 2nd - £300 (Stephen Kemp Memorial) 3rd - £100 (British Council Association Prize) 4th - £100 (Maragaret Best Endowment)
Details: Write your essay of 1500-2000 words All questions can be answered by writing an essay or a story which explores the topic in an interesting and relevant way.

Scholarship Name:  Voice of the Future Essay Contest
Due Date: Thursday, March 1, 2007
For Who?:    This scholarship is available grade 11 and 12 students. Recipients of the scholarships will be determined based on quality of work submitted.
Amount:  Up to $10,000 available.
Details:   Students must submit an essay no longer than 500 words on ONE of the following topics to be eligible for the scholarships:   
Topic 1: In your opinion, what course in high school that is not currently mandatory for a student to take should become mandatory?.
Topic 2: If you could make one scientific discovery in your lifetime, what would it be, and why?
Topic 3: If you had the power to change an event in history (outcome of an election, who won a war, etc.), which would you choose to change, and why?

Scholarship Name:  Canadian Principals Award
Due Date: Wednesday, March 1, 2007
For Who?:  Principal can nominate one student from our school for this award.  This student should demonstrate outstanding leadership. Nominees should be in the top 20% of their class.
Amount: Twenty-one scholarships of $500.00 each will be awarded.
Details:   The Canadian Association of Principals and Premier School Agendas Ltd. are once again proud to sponsor this award this year. The purpose of this award is to afford principals the opportunity to recognize one of their student leaders and to enter that student as a nominee for a national scholarship.

Scholarship Name: Caregivers Nova Scotia Essay Competition

For Who?:     Grades 10, 11 and 12 throughout the province who are willing to write a 500-700 word essay.

If they are caring for a parent are they also raising a family? Does anyone help them? How? How long have they been a caregiver? Who are they caregiving to? Why have you chosen to profile them? Why do you respect and admire them) .  Examples of caregivers are : * Parents caring for a son or daughter with mental or physical challenges who may or may not be able to live on their own. * A mother, or father, caring for their parent(s) at home or in a long term care facility. They could also be raising their own family at the same time. These are known as the Sandwich Generation. * A husband caring for a wife or a wife caring for a husband. * A friend or neighbour caring for someone not related to them. * A teen caring for a brother or sister with mental or physical challenges, a parent or grandparent, friend or neighbour. * Any of these people could be giving care to someone in a long term care facility (nursing home) or to someone who lives alone or a distance away from them

Scholarship Name: The Colonel Douglas H. Gunter History Awards
Due Date:  March 15, 2007
For Who?:     Application for the Colonel Douglas H. Gunter History Awards is open to all senior students who plan on graduating from secondary school in the spring of 2007. To qualify, each student must submit an original work using one of the following media: **Text    **Visual Art    **Web Design    **Audio or Video Production.  In addition, each student must include a completed application form (download here).
Amount:  The total value of the Awards consists of five prizes of $1000 each, to be distributed to five winning students.
Details:   The Canadian War Museum is dedicated to the study of Canadian military history and the effects of war upon Canada and its people. The Museum also recognizes the need to assist students who plan to continue their studies in the field of history. The Colonel Douglas H. Gunter History Awards have been instituted to support and encourage these students.
About this year's theme:  On the morning of September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States killed over 3000 people, including 25 Canadians. Canada responded in October 2001 by joining an American-led invasion of Afghanistan, which had sheltered and supported many of those responsible. Your original work should explore how Canada's presence in Afghanistan has changed in the past five years. Some questions you might wish to consider in your work: Are Canadian interests served by the ongoing military mission? How has it affected Canadians at home and internationally? How have the Afghan people responded?

Scholarship Name: First Nations and Indigenous Black Students Scholarship- Dalhousie
Due Date: Wednesday, March 15, 2006
For Who?:   Available to First Nations and Indigenous Black students, who are residents of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick or Prince Edward Island, and are entering Dalhousie for the first time.    Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of a student's financial need and academic standing.
Amount:  Ten renewable entrance scholarships valued at $3,000 each are available.   Valued at $12,000 over four years.
Details: Scholarships are available to students who are applying directly from high school as well as those who have attended another post-secondary institution.   Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of a student's financial need and academic standing. Scholarship Name:  Mount A Bell Scholarship
Due Date: Wednesday, March 15, 2006
For Who?:   Students applying to Mount A who have demonstrated strong academic ability, leadership potential, volunteer work, extracurricular activities, work experience, and good citizenship.    
Amount: The eighteen students who are short listed for an interview for the Bell Scholarship will be contacted in late March/early April to arrange a telephone interview to be held early in April. The top 6 Bell candidates will receive a $12,000 Bell Scholarship. The second six short-listed Bell scholarship candidates will be offered a $7,000 scholarship. The final six will be offered a top Mount Allison entrance scholarship. These scholarships are renewable to a maximum of four years.    Renewal criteria will be included with the Bell Scholarship offer letter.    Students with learning disabilities or other personal challenges will be fairly considered in both the application and the renewal process.
Details:  Established in 2002 as the premier entrance scholarship at Mount A, the Bell Scholarship celebrates students who have demonstrated strong academic ability, leadership potential, volunteer work, extracurricular activities, work experience, and good citizenship.  Mount Allison students have benefited from the generous contributions to the University made by the Bell Family (and the Bell Endowment Funds) over the years. Their generous support, through such scholarships as the Marguerite Deinstadt scholarships, the Ralph Pickard Bell scholarships, Mary Emerancy Pickard scholarship and various bursaries, has helped finance the academic careers of hundreds of Mount Allison students over the last 50 years, with scholarships and other forms of financial support.
How to apply:  To be considered for this prestigious scholarship, applicants must ensure that the following documentation has been submitted to the university along with the application for admission. Students who have already submitted the application for admission but who wish to be considered for this scholarship should forward additional documentation by March 15th:

Scholarship Name: The Primrose Scholarship (UNBSJ)
Due Date: Thursday, March 15, 2007
For Who?:   Recognizing academic achievement, community involvement and athletic leadership.  
Amount:  $5000
Details: The Primrose Scholarship was developed by UNB Saint John alumna Sandra Irving (BA 95) to recognize students who have demonstrated leadership potential. She led the way in fundraising activities to establish the scholarship in 1999. Mrs. Irving continues to be involved with the winners and in the stewardship of the scholarship.   
How to apply:  To apply, send a cover letter requesting consideration, a resume emphasizing extracurricular activities, latest high school transcript and a 500 word essay on the following topic: Discuss the qualities that define leadership.  An additional copy of the latest high school transcript is not necessary to include with your Primrose application if you have already included it with application for admission to UNB Saint John. Please make a note of this in your letter requesting consideration for the Primrose Scholarship.

Scholarship Name:  Halifax Shipping Assoc. Essay Writing Contest

For Who?:    The contest is open to Junior High School and High School students in grades nine through twelve attending public, private, parochial, or home schools who are under the age of twenty and enrolled and residing anywhere within the province of Nova Scotia.

Details:   The Halifax Shipping Association in an effort to promote a better community understanding of the value of the marine industry to Canada and Canadians is pleased to sponsor an essay writing contest to provide one bursary award of $ 2,000 toward the educational development of the winning entrant.  "In 1,000 words or less, write an essay that is original, creative, and demonstrates an appreciation of the value of the marine business life of the Port of Halifax to the local region and to the country as a whole. Details:   The Colin B. MacGillivray Athletic/Academic Award was founded in 1996 by Hockey Nova Scotia and named in memory of long time Minor Hockey and Branch Officer, Colin B. MacGillivray. Scholarship Name:  Dr. P. Anthony Johnstone $6000 Entrance Scholarship
Due Date:  March 31, 2007
For Who?:   A graduate of a Nova Scotia high school in this academic year (not as a result of upgrading), A resident of Nova Scotia, A student who is entering the first year of an undergraduate Bachelor's degree program this fall, and who has demonstrated interest in multiculturalism and human rights and  A student who will study for this degree at a university in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, or Prince Edward Island
Amount:  $6000 (non-renewable)
Details:   This entrance scholarship was established by the Province of Nova Scotia in August 1991 to encourage young people to educate themselves on human rights issues in Canada. It honours the life and work of the late Dr. P. Anthony Johnstone, a former Executive Director of the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission.

Scholarship Name:  Nova Scotia Power Inc. Employment Equity Scholarship
Due Date: March 31st, 2007
For Who?:    For visible minorities, persons with disabilities or aboriginal persons. Academic achievement, community involvement, involvement in extra-curricular activities, and personal attributes
Amount:  Four (4) $1,500 entrance scholarships.  Three or four years, dependent on the duration of the undergraduate program  
Details:   Applicants must be graduating from a Nova Scotia high school and entering their first year at a post-secondary institution in the fall of the same year as graduation from high school.   Scholarships will not be awarded for pursuit of Graduate Studies or made in combination with any other Nova Scotia Power scholarships. Recipients must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant and permanent resident of Nova Scotia for at least three years, two of which are immediately prior to high school graduation. Scholarships and bursaries are non-transferable.     (*) Visible Minorities in Canada are defined under the Employment Equity Act as: "persons other than Aboriginal peoples, who are non-Caucasian in race or non-white in colour. This consists of Chinese, Asians (South, West and Southeast), Blacks, Arabs, Filipinos, Latin Americans, Japanese, Koreans, and Pacific Islanders."

Scholarship Name:  Automotive Aftermarket GAAS Scholarship
Due Date:  March 31, 2007
For Who?:  Graduated high school student within the past two years who are going to attend college, and university and who want to pursue a career in the automotive aftermarket.  While all students are encouraged to apply, priority in awarding scholarships will be given to those pursuing a career in the automotive aftermarket.
Amount:  $1000 Canadian
Details:   Young people like you, with bright minds and enthusiasm, are the future of the automotive aftermarket. To help launch your career, several automotive aftermarket associations established the Global Aftermarket Symposium Scholarship (GAASS) program in 1996. The program is funded from the net proceeds of the annual Global Automotive Symposium.
