Scholarship Name: National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation-Aboriginal Health Careers Scholarships

For Who?: A Canadian resident Aboriginal individual who is either First Nation status or non-status, Métis or Inuit;
Enrolled in a program of full-time post-secondary study – that is not less than two academic years – at an accredited university, college or CEGEP and pursuing a certificate, diploma or degree; there is an exception made for one-year upgrading programs such as nurse practitioner program after a Bachelor of Science in nursing;

Scholarship Name: Canadian Parents for French Yarmouth Scholarship
Due Date: Monday, May 1st, 2006
For Who?: a) Must be enrolled in an FSL program for the 2005-2006 academic year
b) be graduating from high school
c) be planning to attend a post-secondary institution for the 2006-2007 academic
year or planning to further FSL education abroad through exchanges or registered

Scholarship Name: PA Best Education Scholarship
Due Date: May 12th, 2006
For Who?: Must be a student of African Descent, scholarship is based on need.
Amount: $1000 scholarship. If more than one applicant is eligible, two awards may be given in the amount of $500 each.
Details: Must be graduating from YCMHS, must have a good academic standing, must be attending a college or university in the upcoming academic year, must be active in community or school. The selection process is made by members of the Yarmouth Greenville Education Committee/Family members. The recipent will be notified at graduation. The payment of scholarship will be made payable to the recipient and the university/college of choice in January of their first academic year.

Scholarship Name: Nova Scotia Community College Entrance Awards
Due Date: Friday, May 19, 2006
For Who?: Any Nova Scotia high school graduate coming to the College directly from a
provincial high school in September of 2006 is eligible.
Students who have completed high school, or who expect to complete high
school between December 2005 and June 2006 are eligible to apply.
Applicants must have been offered admission to a full-time program and have
paid the required College confirmation fee.
Amount: 26 entrance awards for first year tuition.
Details: Awards will be made based on a minimum average of 75% of the top five
Grade XI marks and up to five of the top Grade XII marks. A recent official
transcript in a sealed envelope must accompany the award application.
Applicants are required to submit a brief essay on the merits of a community
college education. The maximum length should be no more than 500 words
or two pages of double-spaced, typed text.
Consideration will also be given to financial need. Applicants should include a
short statement indicating how they plan to fund their education.

For Who?: The Harry Jerome Scholarships are given
to Black students attending a college or
university in Canada in order to nurture
the academic excellence of Black youth. A Black African or Black Caribbean student who is:
1. A Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada.
2. Between 1 7 to 30 years of age as of the end of September of the year in
which the scholarship is granted.
3. Enrolled in a full time degree (graduate or undergraduate), diploma or certificate
program at a Canadian college or university for the academic year
commencing in the year in which the scholarship is granted. Students commencing
their studies in the Fall are eligible.
Selection will be based on: 1. High academic achievement.
2. Financial need.
3. Recognized contribution to the Black community.

Details: Harry Jerome held six world track
records during the 1960s and
represented Canada in three Olympic
Games. He earned both undergraduate
and graduate degrees in science at the
University of Oregon and later become a
leader in sports administration in British
Columbia. Mr. Jerome was admitted to
the Order of Canada in 1971 and inducted
into the Canadian Walk of Fame in 2001.
The Harry Jerome Scholarship Fund was
first established by the Black Business
and Professional Association in 1988 to
honour the memory of Mr. Jerome.
How to apply: 1. A completed application form (Download here) (photocopied forms are acceptable). 2. A letter describing the reasons why you would be a worthy recipient of a Harry Jerome Scholarship. Include your contribution to the Black community, other volunteer activities, your academic achievements, your most important accomplishments and your future goals. 3. A brief outline of your budget for the coming year including information on your expected sources of funding (e.g. Student Loan, parents, etc.) 4. Two letters of reference from the two individuals named in your application. One must be a teacher from your school, college or university. The other must be from an individual, other than your teacher, who is familiar with your community service. 5. An up to date official transcript. 6. Two passport size photos (once submitted will be property of HJSF). Applications must be received at 307- 675 King Street West, Toronto, ON M5V 1M9 no later than 4:00 p.m., May 30th. Scholarship winners will be notified by mid-September and will be required to provide two professional black and white photographs for publicity purposes. Only winners will be notified. For Who?: To be eligible, an applicant must be:
1) a Canadian citizen or have landed immigrant status in Canada
2) entering or enrolled in a full-time post-secondary education program at a recognized Canadian
post-secondary institution
3) able to demonstrate financial need, and one or more of community involvement, academic
excellence, and career objectives which will make a positive contribution in Canadian society. Applications will be considered on the basis of financial need and other factors including community
involvement, academic excellence, and career objectives. A telephone interview will be conducted with
applicants where additional information is required by the Awards Selection Committee.
Amount: Learning Matters is pleased to make available 6 bursaries across the country. Each bursary is
valued at $2,500 and is to be applied towards the cost of tuition. Bursary recipients will be notified in
writing by August 15, 2006, and the funds will be forwarded to the applicable post-secondary school
by September 15, 2006.
Details: Learning Matters Education Charity is committed to providing financial assistance to Canadian

For Who?: Available to African Nova Scotian (Black) students who have successfully completed Grade 12 in the public school system of Nova Scotia within the current year
who have been accepted and will attend university in the academic year immediately following Grade 12
have obtained an average of 75% or higher in five Grade 12 academic courses including the compulsory course of English 12 and any four others from the Public School Program (PSP), please note that approved local courses (ALC) will not be used in this calculation, must
have demonstrated leadership qualities through participation in community affairs, student activities or athletics and
be recommended by the high school principal or guidance counsellor.

Details: The Education Incentive Program for African Nova Scotian Students was established in 1965 by the Government of Nova Scotia to assist and encourage African Nova Scotian students to continue their education in high schools, community college, technical institutes, universities and other approved post-secondary institutions.
