The following Scholarships are available for students involved in some religious organization: (in order by date)


Scholarship Name:  Knights of Columbus- Simon J. Khattar
Due Date:  April 5, 2007
For Who?:   Practicing Catholics of good moral character who reside in Nova Scotia, who have completed Nova Scotia Grade Xl or Grade Xll and who are in need of financial assistance - High academic standing - Other things being equal, preference will be given to members
Amount:  A $1000 non renewable scholarship to successful candidates undertaking studies.

Scholarship Name:  Notre Dame Student Bursary
Due Date: Monday, May 1st, 2006-No date given but the earlier you get this in, the better.
For Who?:   To a deserving Notre Dame student graduating from High School who is registered in a program of studies with a post-secondary institution.
Amount:  $500 bursary
Details: An annual bursary given to a student that attends Notre Dame Catholic Church.
How to apply:  Interested students may apply by writing a letter to the Pastoral Council explaining why they should be considered.  Letters, addressed to the chair of the Pastoral Council, may be dropped off at the offices of the Yarmouth Catholic Churches on Green Street.

Scholarship Name:   Swiss Air Flight 111-Interfaith Council of Halifax Program Scholarships
Due Date: Wednesday, June 1, 2005
For Who?: Graduating high school seniors who plan to attend college/university in the following year and who have demonstrated a commitment to developing or participating in interfaith programs and activities while attending high school.

Amount:  4 scholarships of $1000
Details:   Specifically, these scholarships will be awarded in recognition of work done on the part of the student to bring together fellow students of different faith traditions on an ongoing basis, or to likewise bring together community members of different faith traditions, to participate in a program or programs in school or in the community, or to carry out a project or projects in school or in the community, which programs or projects will expose the participants to each other's faith traditions.  Applications should include descriptions of the groups, programs, or projects involved. 
As further qualification, each student applying for these program Scholarships will be asked to supply a copy of his/her high school transcript and two letters of recommendation, one of which should be from a teacher who is an advisor to, a participant in, or otherwise knowledgeable about the project or program on which the student is basing her/his application.

Scholarship Name:   Swiss Air Flight 111-Interfaith Council of Halifax Research Scholarships
Due Date: Wednesday, June 1, 2005
For Who?: Graduating high school seniors who plan to attend college/university in the following year and who have participated in a supervised research project during their senior year.
Amount:  4 scholarships of $500
Details: Supervised research projects are projects which should involve the student primarily in reading about the beliefs and practices of one or more religions of the world
 other than his/her own.  The goal of the reading will be to supply the student with material for an essay of 500 words in length.  The essay should briefly cite the material read, stating in the student's words the themes which caught the student's attention.  The essay should then discuss what effect the reading had on the student's opinions or attitudes.  (A 500 word essay will not be longer than four 8.5" by 11" pages of single-spaced, 12 point font).  ALL ESSAYS MUS BE PRINTED, rather than hand-written.  The primary determinate of the award will be the essay.
Other important details about the Swissair 111 Memorial research scholarships:
Students interested in applying for a research scholarship must first fill in and submit a "Notification Form" as far in advance of the essay submission deadline as possible in the student's senior year.  (A copy of the research scholarship notification form can be found in guidance.)  In order to complete the notification form, the student first must obtain the approval of a "supervising teacher" who is willing to provide guidance to the student during both the research phase, and the writing phase for the essay.
