Scholarship Name: Ron O'Flaherty Scholar Athlete Award
Scholarship Name: Terry Fox Humanitarian Award
Due Date: February 1st, 2007 (Feb.1st of every year)
For Who?: In recognition of having demonstrated the highest ideals and qualities of citizenship and humanitarian service while in pursuit of excellence in academic, amateur sport, fitness, health and voluntary community service. In so doing has reflected those ideals of courage, humanitarianism, service and compassion, which Terry Fox embodied. There is no set discipline students must study in order to receive the award, but they must maintain their academic, voluntary and career performance to a satisfactory level.
Amount: The value of the award is $7,000 per year, paid directly to the institution in two installments of $3,500 each. For students who do not pay tuition fees, the award is $3,500 per year, paid directly to the institution in two installments of $1,750 each.
Recipients of the Terry Fox Humanitarian Award may not receive more than $15,000 in total scholarships. If a student's awards exceed this amount, any excess will be deducted from the student's Terry Fox Award.
Details: The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award Program was established in 1982 through a grant by the Government of Canada to commemorate Terry's courage and tenacity in his cross-Canada Marathon of Hope. The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award recognizes the benevolence of young Canadians and encourages them to continue in their humanitarian work while attending college or university in Canada. It is open to graduating secondary school students and those currently studying towards their first university degree or diploma. Since its inception, close to one thousand Terry Fox Scholars from across the country and all walks of life have selflessly dedicated themselves to helping others less fortunate, at home, at school and in the community. Each year we receive hundreds of applications and typically recognize 20 new recipients from across the country. The alumni of our program count amont some of Canada's finest, including over 70 medical doctors, 50 teachers, and six graduates of the program who went on the win the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship to study at Oxford University.
How to apply: In order to be considered for a Terry Fox Humanitarian Award, students must submit an application form in Microsoft Word format, three referee forms and an official transcript of the past two years of schooling - no other forms are required. Incomplete application forms will not be considered.

Scholarship Name: The Primrose Scholarship (UNBSJ)
Due Date: Thursday, March 15, 2007
For Who?: Recognizing academic achievement, community involvement and athletic leadership.
Amount: $5000
Details: The Primrose Scholarship was developed by UNB Saint John alumna Sandra Irving (BA 95) to recognize students who have demonstrated leadership potential. She led the way in fundraising activities to establish the scholarship in 1999. Mrs. Irving continues to be involved with the winners and in the stewardship of the scholarship.
How to apply: To apply, send a cover letter requesting consideration, a resume emphasizing extracurricular activities, latest high school transcript and a 500 word essay on the following topic: Discuss the qualities that define leadership. An additional copy of the latest high school transcript is not necessary to include with your Primrose application if you have already included it with application for admission to UNB Saint John. Please make a note of this in your letter requesting consideration for the Primrose Scholarship.

Scholarship Name: Hockey Nova Scotia-B.F. Lorenzetti & Assoc. Insurance Brokers Athletic/Academic Award
Due Date: March 31, 2007
For Who?: The BF Lorenzetti & Associates International Insurance Brokers Award is presented annually to a male or female student athlete entering a program of study at a technical school, college, or university in Canada. The applicant will have an acceptable academic standing, a high level of hockey skill through participation in Hockey Nova Scotia registered hockey and have established a record of community volunteer service.
Amount: 1 award at $1000
Details: Hockey NS recognizes individuals in amateur hockey who have achieved a high level of performance both on and off the ice. In addition to maintaining a high academic standing, these individuals have clearly demonstrated exceptional ability on the ice either as a player or a game official together with exemplary character qualities having upheld the principles of sportmanship and fair play.

Scholarship Name: Hockey Nova Scotia-Citadel Halifax Hotel Athletic/Academic Award
Due Date: March 31, 2007
For Who?: This award is presented to an individual registered with Hockey Nova Scotia who plans to commence post secondary studies at a recognized Canadian university or community college within the same year as graduation from high school. The applicant must have achieved a high level of academic excellence, exceptional hockey ability and is committed to the principles of fair play and sportsmanship.
Amount: 1 award at $1000

For Who?: These awards are presented annually to two graduating High School students who participate in Hockey Nova Scotia registered hockey and intend to continue their studies at Canadian. The awards are valued at $500.00 each and contribute to the students' tuition fees.

Details: The Colin B. MacGillivray Athletic/Academic Award was founded in 1996 by Hockey Nova Scotia and named in memory of long time Minor Hockey and Branch Officer, Colin B. MacGillivray. Hockey NS recognizes individuals in amateur hockey who have achieved a high level of performance both on and off the ice. In addition to maintaining a high academic standing, these individuals have clearly demonstrated exceptional ability on the ice either as a player or a game official together with exemplary character qualities having upheld the principles of sportmanship and fair play.

For Who?: Scholar-athlete must have a minimum of 85 percent average in six grade twelve subjects;
✒ Cannot be a returning graduate;
Has been a participant in an NSSAF Championship event (District, Regional or Provincial);
Demonstrated outstanding leadership, athletic ability and sportsmanship during their senior high school athletic career.
Amount: $750. scholarship to be awarded at the Senior High School level to the top female and top male from each Region;
Details: Scholarship recipients will receive payment upon confirmation of registration at post secondary institution. Each school may nominate one male and one female athlete only.

Scholarship Name: Tyler Fitzgerald Memorial Bursary
Due Date: Monday, June 12, 2006
For Who?: For a student involved in Hockey. This student must be involved in Minor hockey or have been in the past. This is for a graduating student going to further their education (preference given to students going to community college)
Amount: $500 award

Scholarship Name: Royal Canadian Golf Association Foundation Scholarships Scholarship

For Who?: All scholarship applicants must be attending or have been accepted at a Canadian university with a golf program accredited by the RCGA Foundation. Following are universities with RCGA Foundation - accredited golf programs for 2005:

Scholarship Name: Royal Canadian Golf Association Lib and Hal Connor Scholarship
Due Date: Thursday, June 30, 2005
For Who?: Students with a competitive game of golf who were born or reside in Altantic Canada, especially Nova Scotia. Preference is that the scholarship recipients be attending a Canadian university or college with an RCGA Foundation accredited golf program.
Amount: Not given
Details: This fund was established through a gift committmnt made to the RCGA Foundation in memory of Elizabeth (Lib) and Harold (Hal) Connor in recognition of their contribution to golf and business in Nova Scotia. They encourage you to apply is you show a minimum average of 70% in the last 2 years of high school and have attained a graduation diploma (minimum grade 12) or; have attained a ranking on a Royal Canadian Golf Association competitive national ranking system or; have been accepted at a university or college and have been named or will be named to the institution's golf team.
